I wasn’t prepared for how deeply this story would hit. Scott’s journey as a gifted child growing up in a household shaped by mental illness, his mother’s Borderline and Bipolar Disorders, is both heartbreaking and eye-opening.
What stood out to me most wasn’t just Scott’s intelligence, but his empathy. His attempts to “fix” what’s broken in his world are so raw and human. The writing is sharp and deeply reflective, and the blend of psychological complexity and emotional vulnerability made it hard to put down. As someone who’s experienced mental health struggles in my family, this book felt real. Painful at times, yes, but hopeful too.
I’d recommend Neuroniac to anyone who wants a meaningful, intelligent read that isn’t afraid to explore the tough stuff.
